Secluded Dog-Friendly Cabin w/Wood Fireplace, Deck, Private W/D, Mtn Views

Cabin was remote in its location but still close to town. Best of both worlds. The surroundings were quiet, peaceful and extremely private. Trail access from the back that connects to the nature center. Perfectly appointed with everything you need. Cleanliness is clearly a priority with the host. Absolutely spotless. Can’t say enough about this place. Hidden gem! Looking forward to coming back

This place was great. It was very peaceful. It’s a little over a mile to town and sits on a side trail that leads to several other larger hiking trails. It’s also a great spot to observe wildlife. We saw plenty of squirrels, and on our first day we saw three deer on the side trail mentioned earlier. It has amenities like internet and cable tv. If I had one complaint, it’s that the place didn’t have condiments like ketchup, mustard, etc. available. So, make sure to bring your own.

Such a great place to stay! Comfortable, convenience, quiet!! In the forest away from the crowds but five minutes from downtown Idyllwild. Cabin has everything you need or want: delightful outdoor deck, decent internet, very comfortable beds, good TV. But mostly you have the chance to get away, to sit on the deck, seeing no other buildings, but lots of birds, squirrels, and even a few deer. I had a great stay here and hope to come again. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. It was very clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable visit. We especially appreciated the extra blankets in the closets, which came in handy on the chilly nights. I noticed some previous comments about the steep driveway, but it really wasn't an issue for us at all. We drove a Honda Civic and had no problems. There's a small initial bump at the entrance, but otherwise the driveway was perfectly manageable. One of the highlights of our stay was the wildlife in the backyard. We saw coyotes, deer, and plenty of squirrels, which made the experience feel even more special and connected to nature. The furniture is a bit dated, but it was very comfortable. There were also lots of books available to read, along with board games and puzzles. Overall, it was a great stay, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Awesome cabin! Very close to town! Quiet and serene area. Nice getaway from city life. Home was very clean. For anyone who drives a low car the driveway is very steep, underneath of car will scrape. Besides that I highly recommend this place.

The cabin is gorgeous, we felt right at home. It was so clean and plenty of kitchen items to cook each night. HOWEVER, the driveway is STEEP. Be mindful if you come in a smaller car or low car. We did not have a choice but to park on the street due to how steep it was and how low the car we rented was (2026 Camry). Outside of that, it was incredible. Clean, quiet, and just the perfect place to stay. Thoughtful bits in the cabin for the dog too. Wonderful place!

The cabin was outfitted with all the essentials and very clean, cozy and welcoming. The area was very quiet and great for some relaxation. Our 2 small dogs also were quite comfortable and alerted us to each squirrel in view! The description of a steep driveway was accurate, luckily no snow to make it slippery. The stairs to the entry were wide with handrails on each side.

This cabin was well stocked with everything we would need, it was like being at home. The location was great for being in the midst of nature, we had daily visits from a family of white tail deer, a pack of coyotes wondered by, and squirrels scurried around all day. It was a very peaceful and adventurous getaway for our little family.

We opened the door to a warm, cozy inviting cabin. Loved the modern kitchen & bathrooms, and comfortable beds and rustic feel with knotty pine paneling in the living room and large fireplace. We had a fire both nights, watched a dvd snd felt like we were staying in a relative’s house. We will be back to this lovely place.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Elk Horn Retreat. The cabin was gorgeous and spotless when we arrived. We soaked up all the cozy vibes and had such a great time with the movies and games provided. Everything we could've needed was right there, and we're so grateful for such a beautiful, thoughtfully prepared space. It's the perfect mix of peaceful seclusion while still being just a quick drive into town. We will definitely be back soon :)

This place is honestly so much better than it looked in the photos!! I’ve stayed in a lot of Airbnbs in Idyllwild, but this one is definitely a favorite now. You could definitely stay here for a while too - the kitchen is FULLY stocked, there’s a washer and dryer, and it’s such a nice quiet spot. Can’t wait to go back!

This is a well maintained, warm, welcoming, comfortable and well-equipped cabin. We were grateful for the good-sized fireplace, nice modern tv (where we streamed digital fireplace on YouTube much of the time), the views of trees and lovely rear porch for dining outside. Arriving, we were touched by the warm welcome, finding a foil turkey pan, foil, napkins, and a couple of extra storage containers on the counter to welcome us for the holiday weekend! How very thoughtful. I had been a bit nervous about reports mentioning the steep driveway, but in the dry weather we did not find the driveway to be unusually steep or tricky for Idyllwild. My family members were able to comfortably park a Toyota sedan and a Honda civic in the driveway. We are accustomed to driving in mountains, however; it might be a new experience for some drivers or in icy weather. Our family loved our stay at the Elkhorn Retreat! Upon entering, we were welcomed by soothing music and a very clean relaxing space. There were comfy beds for everyone in our family of four--with 2 college boys, this was a must! There were plenty of blankets, pillows, and towels. The home was exactly as described, extremely clean, and met all of our needs. The only thing I was dissatisfied with was being told that the master bedroom was covered by the AC, but only the living room and kitchen area were. Fortunately it cooled off enough at night that we were able to still sleep well. Hence the still 5 star review. I strongly recommend staying at this beautiful cabin.

Absolutely lovely location with pretty much no neighbors in view so really private. We sat outside morning and evening to enjoy the smells of nature and watch all the birds and squirrels. You feel so far from town but it was a super short, quick trip to Idyllwild town square. Fantastic hiking is also super close! The house itself was perfect! Felt comfy and homey and had a fully stocked kitchen (if you want to cook). We would absolutely stay here again!

This is a great location for a great price. My family of four worked really well with the amount of space, two bathrooms, and cabin amenities. Access to the laundry was super helpful and they provided two packets of laundry detergent. That was a really nice bonus. My family had an amazing time, and hope to visit again soon!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay during the Christmas holiday. The cabin was charming and had everything we needed. The kitchen was well-stocked so that we were able to cook a festive Christmas dinner and other meals during our stay. Please note there was no grill outside, but the host provided a small "Foreman" type grill for inside use. Quite a few trails were able to be accessed directly from the property which we loved! Another note: A pack of cayote walked close to the house one afternoon. We were very glad our dogs were inside at the time.We would gladly book another stay at this adorable dog-friendly cabin!

The cabin is lovely. Well laid out & nicely appointed. The central heat was nice- we kept it at 65/66 & it was perfect. I brougt wood, but am leaving it for the next guest. As, check in is not until 4pm and we arrived at 4:30 almost dark, a better exterior lighting would have been appreciated. Your flashlights all need batteries. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our stay hre. This was a Christmas present to my mom, who used to live here in Idyllwild.w

We love coming to stay in the "cozy cabin" in the woods! Inside, the cabin is warmly and quaintly decorated and spotlessly clean, and generously stocked with everything you need for cool nights; tons of pillows, blankets and throws for the beds or in front of the fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen for cooking, and 2 spacious bathrooms with lots of towels. Since the cabin is nestled in a hollow, the trees surround the deck and provide peace and privacy. Having coffee on this deck in the morning is my favorite thing to do here; Stellar Jays, nuthatches and other birds come in close along with the squirrels. There is also a small herd of deer that walks through the yard and stops to graze here. It's only 5 minutes from town and has hiking trails leading out from the back yard that we took advantage of. The peace, quiet and fresh air here is so rejuvenating and good for the soul; we will definitely be back!

We had a last minute weather change that caused some complications getting to the house. But nothing caused by the host. They can’t help the snow. I would recommend 4WD and chains if going to visit in the winter. We loved the house and the surrounding area. So peaceful and everything was in working order. The house was warm when we checked in. Thankfully because it was snowing. The beds were comfortable. We will rent here again. Definitely recommend!!

This home is just a mile out of Idyllwild in the mountains and very close to the nature center where there are several hiking trails. The cabin was very clean and had everything you would need for a home away from home. Full kitchen with nice assortment of pots/pans/knives and utensils. Enjoyed the real log fireplace and strong wifi/cable tv. Master suite/bath was very nice with very comfortable bed. We had a wonderful time visiting Idyllwild and staying eat the cabin. It was much more than we could have hoped for. Extremely clean and cozy. My only bit of advice is watch the driveway. It is NOT for a low car or with snow on the ground. It is very steep. Fortunately I brought my pickup and was able to back out of the driveway. We will be back!

When we first stepped foot into the cabin it was immediately apparent the love that was poured into this home; so very warm and inviting. The cabin was completely spotless and very well maintained. We had everything we needed. The incredibly beautiful location can't be beat. There are bobcats that stroll through the woods surrounding the cabin in the early morning and evenings so please be sure to keep your fur babies leashed.

We had a great stay. The house is private and peaceful, without feeling too isolated. The property is surrounded by a forest park with the nearest neighbors not visible through the trees, yet you are only about a 5 minute drive to town. Lounging by the fireplace watching old dvds was a nice retreat after a day hiking and browsing all the Idyllwild shops.

A perfect home for our two dogs, who enjoyed exploring the beautiful property! Super super comfy beds in both rooms, and the two oversized recliners were so perfect! Convenient location to the Nature Center, and Deer Springs Trailhead. We had a nice walk to the nature center. A quick drive to town. Kitchen is clean, organized, and equipped for meals. We ate most of our meals in home. The deck is comfortable,quiet, and removed from close neighbors. Only suggestion is to have spare tp and facial tissue on hand. We may have missed it. Love the home and we hope to revisit soon!!

The house was so clean and cozy. We felt right at home. There is also a trail right near the house that allows you quick access to nature. The back patio forces you to slow down and enjoy the peacefulness that is offered around the house. The beds were very comfortable and had soft sheets which was a major plus for me. I would highly recommend this house for a peaceful getaway. We are definitely coming back with our two girls. I will note that you do have to drive to town but it’s very close.

This cabin is located in a very quiet neighborhood about a mile from "downtown" Idyllwild. It is extremely clean and well-equipped with excellent kitchen appliances and cookware. We ate every meal at the cabin (mostly on the back deck) making full use of the extensive kitchen space and equipment. The birds and squirrels were a joy to watch and photograph. Despite the heat, the temperature in the cabin was comfortable due to the shade from surrounding trees and use of window fans. This was my 3rd visit to the Elk Horn cabin (the other 2 being over 25 years ago!) and it is still a wonderful as ever!

This home is better than the photos show! Very clean and well maintained. The real bonus is enjoying the outdoors as the lot is large and adjacent to trails which lead you to the nature center or rim trail. I was concerned that the house doesn’t have AC given we visited during July. However with the fans, breeze and shade trees outside, we were never uncomfortable. We would love to come back!

Wish the cabin had a working AC for the summertime, but the several fans and the cold air at night helped keep the place cool. Beautiful location, the cabin is spotless, and everything is provided. Anything that we thought we might need or that we forgot to bring, was there at the cabin. The place is very comfortable and makes you feel right at home. The silence and privacy were great to relax our busy city minds and bodies. The perfect getaway for a relaxing weekend. We will be back in the winter to enjoy the snow and warm up by the fireplace.

This place is cozy and situated amongst beautiful trees. It’s the perfect place for families and for those looking to get away from the city. There’s a lovely little trail that leads to the cabin and connects with a larger trail that takes you to the nature center. There’s a creek close by and a small waterfall that cascades down boulders. You will not be disappointed. They have all of the kitchen essentials; if you’re someone who enjoys cooking, you’ll find most of what you need (nothing fancy). I highly recommend this place to nature lovers.

Wonderfully quiet location with tons of space. Great hillside for sledding. Cozy and clean.

This was one of the best-stocked rentals and it was exceptionally clean. The hot water was super hot and the climate control was super easy. There was a fireplace and they even had it stocked with logs (though we brought fire starters to make it easier to light.) The grounds were STUNNING I wish I could include photos. Wildlife, a creek, snow on the ground, nestled into the hillside. They had coffee, ziploc bags, good quality soaps and hand soap, dish soap, throw blankets and pillows, plenty of towels, everything you could need. The check in and check out process was the easiest ever. I really think we’ll be back and it’s so nice knowing you don’t have to worry about much because they have the details covered. All they ask is you take off your shoes inside bc there’s a clean carpet throughout the non-kitchen/bathroom premises. We appreciated the cleanliness!
