  • 60 days or more, prior to Arrival date, Acme House Company will process a 100% refund except for special services** ordered on behalf of the occupant. (Special services refunds are explained below)
  • > 48 hours - 59 days prior to arrival, guests can obtain a full refund minus the booking fee, taxes on the booking fee, and any special services*

We rented this house for our 2 families. worked out so well. conveniently located to great eats, museum, 7 minutes from the aerial tram. and only 45 minutes from Joshua Tree. Couldn't be happier. Everyone enjoyed the billiard table and pool. the decor is also so fun. Really happy with our stay. check in and check out was so easy and staff at Acme always responsive.

Acme was terrific. While the house may have been missing a couple small things, they brought them over in a couple of hours & were very responsive. Enjoyed the home with my two adult children & their partners. We all loved the house, very comfortable. (One queen bed is being repaired). Also loved the location, walked into town everyday and visited Ruth Hardy Park with our pup daily. Ideal for us.

We sat outside by the fireplace every night and even used the one inside on a chilly morning! The pool was terrific as well. WOW! My kid's LOVED this pool! They swam morning and at night. The house layout was great, I could cook and still visit with everyone=Great Room. I do recommend a key pad lock on the back slider to the yard, so couple sleeping in 4th bedroom that you have to get to through the back yard (detached and separate from home), can get inside in the morning without waking anyone. We didn't feel super safe sleeping with the slider open at night :( House is missing large salad bowl or large bowls to make Thanksgiving dinner with. Also missing the tool to scrape the bowls with to get everything out for baking. We had to go to the store to buy coffee filters and a roasting pan for the turkey. But this home surpassed our expectations, these things were minor and when I called about them, they brought them same day (although we had already bought them ourselves). We would 100% stay again. Neighbors were friendly, neighborhood very nice and super quiet.

Overall Comment We rented this home for a family vacation for our group of 6. The open floor plan for the kitchen, living room and dining room was perfect for gathering and entertaining. So many fun, colorful works or art. Very Contemporary! Plenty of dishes, utensils, etc. as we love to cook. The backyard, pool and spa were amazing! Also was within walking distance to Downtown, which was great for our adult children for nightlife. 2 blocks to Ruth Hardy park for the little kids. Overall Comment Everything was perfect at the Kirk Douglas House. He lived here in the mid-1950s for a couple years so it's been a while since Kirk was around but everything was as described and the house was in first-class shape. It's not a huge house but comfortably fit the 7 of us. The pool and hot tun were great, the pool table was fund and the grill worked. Very quiet neighborhood, too.

Great Vacation Getaway

Overall Comment We spent a week at the Kirk Douglas House with our children and grandchildren and it was marvellous. The house was clean and relatively well equipped for the eight of us. Our second night ran into some problems common in the area as tree roots blocked the water outflow. ACME responded immediately with their own staff and had a plumber out quickly. The blockage was significant and the plumber had to call in additional help. ACME was prepared to move us, but fortunately (because we liked the location and it was late at night) they fixed the problem then a clean up crew came in and returned the house to its previously spotless condition. To make up for the inconvenience Carmen sent over a bottle of wine and a gift card for a restaurant we had reserved prior to our arrival. The location was excellent, a fifteen minute walk to Palm Canyon Drive, so we could walk to great restaurants. The pool was heated and, because it is an older property, longer and deeper than expected. We would recommend ACME as an excellent resource for Palm Springs rentals.

Overall Comment Overall, we had a great stay. The staff at Acme is extremely responsive and will appear almost immediately for faulty electronics, hot tubs, etc. The house was a little less than we expected, in that the name "Kirk Douglas" is used for marketing, but when you dig a bit deeper you learn he lived here for about 2 years many years ago. Not really an opulent house, more of a fun and kitsch house. Having said that, we had a great time, great location, and little to complain about.

Overall Comment We had a great stay - four couples and super comfortable for everyone. Great general areas including indoor and outdoor spots. The pool was in the shade that made it cool throughout the day - and the outdoor pool table was a fun midday activity. The house was about a mile walk to town - doable during the cool parts of the day and an inexpensive Uber ride to anywhere in Palm Springs you want to go.

The layout of the house is perfect for a large group. There's plenty of space to find quiet time alone, but then the backyard and pool are perfect for when you want to be around others. We had a great stay here for a long weekend (in scorching mid-summer). The house is inspired by Palm Spring's quirk & charm, and perfect for groups of friends or large families travelling together. During our stay the pool was the biggest plus, and the AC never stopped once as we had 120F temps every day. ACME House Company provided amazing service, welcoming us and taking us through everything. The house also came with one of the most comprehensive guide books I've ever come across, outlining everything there was to know.

What a truly amazing house to stay in. I always judge a house by my kids reaction, they could not stop running from room to room pointing out everything they loved. The cleanest rental we've stayed at in Palm Springs!

This superb, spotlessly cleaned house was the perfect size and layout for our family gathering. We loved the great location, the pool and the separate areas in the garden so people could read, swim or sunbathe. It was by far the cleanest, most well appointed rental we've stayed at in Palm Springs. We liked the house so much we rarely left it! Despite a few small issues (guest casita could use a ceiling fan and the mattress could be more comfortable) we had a wonderful time! Thank you ACME for being responsive to all of our needs!

Beautiful, Elegant, Refreshing Retreat

My wife and I and our three girls (aged 16, 13 and 9) stayed at the amazing, interior and exterior showpiece of a house; the The Kirk Douglas House in the hot desert summer of 2014. I'm not sure what has taken me so long to reply, to write this review: This place is a TEN. There is so much perfect about it, I don't have time in this space to provide all of the information that impressed and made us smile. From the coffee machine to the pavers in front and back, from the clean manicured landscape to the edgy and somehow apropos sketches and artwork, to the perfectly maintained pool, patio and barbecue, we loved it. All I could think of when we had been in the refreshing, visual show piece (it looked like an art museum to me) ...after looking through so many VRBO properties in Palm Springs and (other desert cities) was: where is the Sixth Star. I'd read through three, four and five star reviews. This place deserves a sixth! My wife and I knew that we were traveling with our climate sensitive daughters (we live in San Francisco Bay Area, the climate is not too difficult), our risk was taking a chance on Palm Springs in August. More than a few people warned us: they need 'chillers in the pools it is so hot there in the summer....it's so hot, the lizards duck for cover, it is so hot, the newspapers melt to the pavement, (and so on)...we took a chance; in large part because of helpful reviews on VRBO (hence, my late attempt to provide feedback, praise and to inform). We would rent this home again!

Overall the house was GREAT! The photos do not do it justice. The backyard and pool area are perfect and beyond comfortable. The living room could benefit from a couple of comfortable chairs alongside the sofa. The condom art print in the master bath seemed a bit inappropriate. We would rent this home again!

Perfect for a family get-away!

This house is perfect for a family get-away. Best part was the outdoor accommodations, i.e. pool, seating areas. Other than not knowing how to turn on the heat in the pool, everything was perfect. We had an awesome time.

Our stay was great! No surprises!

The house was incredibly unique and stylish, and filled with great amenities. Also, the cost, relative to the luxury of the house, was extremely reasonable. We only had two items that were in any way negative. First is that the landscaping crew came as we were trying to enjoy the pool. The rental staff was responsive on this though. The second - please water less during this California drought. Just put in astroturf! Or more hardscape. Aside from having too much grass for our taste the landscaping was amazing. Our stay was great, and the house was as anticipated. We really loved the art and got a lot of enjoyment from the uniqueness of the house.

Extremely successful Palm Springs trip!

While looking at pictures of houses online, this one looked the coolest. I knew the decor was different and cool - based on pictures and other reviews but it still took me by surprise when we arrived. Everyone in our group was blown away! It had four bedrooms which is what we needed and the backyard seemed to be large (it was). The house was impeccable from top to bottom. Everything was clean, kitchen was extremely organized with every drawer labeled. The bedrooms were all beautiful and different. The master bathroom was INCREDIBLE! The decor was amazing! I could go on and on. I am already planning on returning to the home.

I learned about Acme House Co. through my good friend Laurie Weitz. We rented two Acme properties for a family event weekend in Palm Springs. In planning the weekend I had a lot on my plate but Ken and the Acme team really did me a solid! We had my father Harry and a few others stay at the Villa Valencia property (very Adobe/Bloomingdales chic), while the rest of us stayed at The Kirk Douglas House. One of the best parts of the whole weekend was the look on my family & friends' faces when they saw where they were staying! The two properties were very different but both great. Everyone was comfortable and had a great time. The TUB in the MASTER at The Kirk Douglas House was the perfect tub for me. I was in it every chance I got. I WANT THAT TUB! If you are planning a visit to Palm Springs - call Ken at Acme House Co. and tell him Shari sent you!
