Every Thursday night between 6 and 10 p.m., the heart of Palm Springs comes alive with the one-of-a-kind Palm Springs Villagefest. A weekly street fair/bazaar spanning four blocks of downtown Palm Springs, Villagefest has been offering over 200 booths of local art, handicrafts and food since 1990. Attracting thousands of visitors every week, this Palm Springs tradition offers some of the most fun, eclectic shopping, eating and entertainment to be had anywhere, with many merchants along Palm Canyon Drive staying open late on that magical weeknight. Each week, different vendors, along with regular long-time merchants, set up their wares, and street entertainers make each block a unique musical and theatrical experience. Countless visitors rate Villagefest as one of the most fun attractions in Palm Springs. A great perk for art lovers is that the Palm Springs Art Museum offers free admission every Thursday night.
You won’t find any junk items or tasteless food gracing Villagefest vendor booths; each vendor must go through a jurying process when applying for space—only the best of the best are chosen, and all goods must be locally made. Offering everything from clothes and cactus-shaped lamps to delicious homemade food, Villagefest is by far the most unique ongoing event in the city. Think Mardi Gras meets gargantuan swap meet.
Musicians perform live on the street and sell their CDs, there’s no shortage of costumed dogs, and artists show off their creative skills next to their displays. There’s even a spray paint artist who shows up to do his thing. And everywhere is food, food, and more food!
Villagefest is renowned as the best place in Palm Springs to sample local gourmet offerings, and you can indulge in a vast array of creative culinary delights along the Tahquitz Canyon Way food court; be sure to get a refreshing shave ice to cool you down as you enjoy the hot summer night spectacle. An excellent farmer’s market offers the freshest local fruit and produce, perfect for stocking up your Acme House Company home away from home.
