Welcome to Palm Springs - Disney Style! This sprawling home was built for the legendary cartoonist, filmmaker and amusement park owner. Walt Disney and his wife Lillian called this desert escape home during their twilight years. The home was owned by the Disney Family until 2015.
Walt had this house built in 1962, around the time when his famous television show, Walt Disney Presents upgraded from black-and-white to color, changing its name to Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color. It is no surprise that the interiors of this Palm Springs paradise are a study in color - with bold reds, blues and yellows making for a Technicolor experience with dramatic art deco influences. The new owners have lovingly preserved Walt's vision of desert luxury - keeping the vibrant and beautiful animated color scheme and most of the furniture. Now available as a vacation rental home - you can treat yourself to life in the desert - the way Walt Disney imagined it.
The spacious open floor plan blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor living. Tastefully set back off the 2nd fairway of the Indian Canyons North Course, the home is much the way it was when the Disney family lived here - but it has been modernized for today. Four flat screen televisions, high speed internet, updated kitchen and a Sonos Sound System allowing guests to play their music via iphone, laptop, or ipad.
The great room has dining for eight, a gas fireplace, a flat screen television, two large sofas plus occasional chairs. The kitchen is perfect for individual or group meal prep. All along the back of the house are walls of glass revealing pool and golf course views and direct access to the covered outdoor dining and recreation area.
THE SLEEPING QUARTERS
The four bedrooms are spacious, comfortable and uniquely furnished with that magic Disney touch. Each has a private ensuite bath and ample closet space. There are two master suites, each with a king-sized bed, a flat screen television and direct access to the pool and patio. The third guest room has a flat screen television and two twin beds that can be converted to a king upon request. The fourth bedroom has two twin beds.
Nestled on a quiet residential street in the impressive Indian Canyons, this property has classic mid-century curb appeal. The dog-friendly fenced backyard is partially screened from the golf course with a mature ficus hedge. There are mature plantings to shield from the neighboring homes. The sundrenched yard features gorgeous mountain views, a large grassy area for lawn games, a heated inground saltwater pool with integrated waterfall spa, a gas barbecue, and poolside chaise lounges - perfect for relaxing, catching some rays, and spending quality time with your group.
Walt's Technicolor Dream House is situated on the Indian Canyons Golf Resort, which has been a jewel of Palm Springs since 1961. This 36-hole course is set on 550 acres of Native American land and was a favorite haunt of Hollywood celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, and Jackie Gleason. U.S. Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, Lyndon B. Johnson and Ronald Reagan also walked these fairways. Just a short stroll away is The Indian Canyons Country Club, which is home to the famous Disney fountain, which to this day shoots water over 100 feet into the air. You can see the spray of the fountain from the backyard of this property.
