“In Their Words” with Bonnie Montgomery at The Bowie House

Welcome to “In Their Words" - a blog series where we learn about the Acme Vacation Rental experience from the guest perspective.

We all know that Acme vacation homes provide the perfect setting for our guests to gather with friends, sip cocktails by the pool, and soak up the sun, but there are as many ways to enjoy a Five-star Acme guest experience as there are Acme guests. Our guests are such a colorful, fun, and talented group – we just love to get their take on what makes the Acme experience so special.

Enter Bonnie Montgomery. Bonnie is a classically trained opera singer and composer who is just as comfortable leading her honky tonk band across the country as she is on the opera stage. A native Arkansan, Bonnie is the composer of the modern folk opera Billy Blythe (about the childhood of Bill Clinton), which has been performed in opera houses across the country, as well as the winner of the Ameripolitan country music award for Outlaw Female of the Year. We don’t know many folks who can claim both of those honors! 

No stranger to the road, Bonnie has toured through the U.S. and Europe, sharing the stage with artists such as Gossip, Shovels and Rope, Chris Stapleton, and Sturgill Simpson, among others. While on tour supporting her newest album, "Forever", Bonnie and her band mixed a little R&R into tour life, staying at The Bowie House for a few days after they brought the house down at Pioneertown venue Pappy & Harriet’s.

So... what brings you to Palm Springs?
We were on a Southwest tour playing a happening venue not far from Palm Springs called Pappy and Harriet’s and we wanted to schedule in a few days of downtime by the pool. We love playing Pappy and Harriet’s when we are traveling through Cali, but we also love relaxing in the sunshine if we can schedule it in. Even just a few days is so rejuvenating.

What did you love about The Bowie House?
EVERYTHING! The misting system beside the pool, the fully stocked kitchen, all of the David Bowie memorabilia and the books in the main room! The space was just so inspiring!

How did staying in an Acme home help you work or play during your stay?
The House Manual really did guide us in our Palm Springs experience and in the activities we planned. Everyone at Acme had great recommendations and tips about ways to enjoy the house and the town that made our stay even better.

Any food or beverage experiences from your trip that you can’t stop thinking about?
Honestly, we were in such a chill mood that we just loved staying in and cooking in the beautiful kitchen. When you’re touring, sometimes all you want is just to be able to cook for yourself! And The Bowie House was so fabulous, we really didn’t even want to leave!

Everyone has their own magical Palm Springs moment - can you tell us about one of yours?
Sitting by the pool under the mister with a drink looking at the mountains. COMPLETE GLAMOUR. 

What would you love to do on your next visit that you didn’t get a chance to do this time around?
I really wanted to check out a few local bars I’d heard about, but we just kept hanging at the house – so next time! 

If a movie was made about your time at The Bowie House, what would it be called?
Country comes to Cali!
